Followers pray for pastor
A bailor posted the $4.5 million bail for the pastor Vishnu Lutchmansingh late yesterday. Worshippers under the Pastor, who is currently facing charges of fraud, yesterday gathered at the Cunupia church where they discussed the circumstances leading to their pastor’s arrest. There were no church services but the church members said a prayer on behalf of their pastor and promised to attend the court hearing today, at the San Fernando Magistrate’s Court. At about 1.30 pm on Saturday, the pastor reportedly gave himself up to the Fraud Squad at the San Fernando Police Administration Building. A warrant had been issued on Friday for his arrest. The pastor remained in police custody up to late yesterday until bail was posted, as the two bailors who accompanied him to the station on Saturday were unable to meet the bail requirment. Bail had been set at $4.5 million. The pastor shot to fame when he claimed that he had inherited billions of dollars from a couple who had died and left him as their sole heir. It is alleged that he obtained several loans from business places and some 500 people, including persons from Guyana and Barbados, on the promise that once he came into all his inheritance he would pay off his debts.
