Police, army raid South home
Late yesterday afternoon a contingent of police and army personnel was searching a San Fernando home after a tip-off that a man wanted in connection with international drug trafficking was hiding in the area. The stake-out began at about 4 pm, when more than 30 members of the Inter-Agency Task Force and army men swooped down on Victoria Village. The lawmen entered a house while several heavily-armed army men and police officers took up strategic positions in nearby bushes. For several hours, a family was interrogated and searches were conducted inside and around the house. The lawmen also searched cars parked in the family’s garage. The search was still being conducted up to late last night. A police report stated the police seized two weighing scales. A top police official told Newsday last night that they are on the lookout for a man wanted in Grenada for drug trafficking. The man, police said, had been hiding out in South Trinidad. The search by army and police created quite a stir among residents of Victoria Village, who locked their doors and remained indoors.
