South Junior Calypso starts today
FOURTEEN calypsonians have qualified for the San Fernando Carnival Committee’s (SFCC) Junior Calypso Monarch Competition, to be held at City Hall Auditorium today. The competition is scheduled to begin at 10 am, and South Junior Monarch 2005 champion Denissa Nelson is expected to go all out in defending her crown. She will come up against a contingent of young contestants from primary and secondary schools in South. Meanwhile, San Fernando’s pre-Dimanche Gras competition, billed as the "Night of the Sando Monarchs," will take place at Skinner Park on Wednesday February 22, from 8 pm. This year’s Junior Parade of the Bands will take place on Sunday February 26 from noon, at Skinner’s Park. The 14 finalists for the Junior Monarch Competition are: Dinika Nelson — San Fernando Government Secondary; Shinesse Simmons — Holy Faith Convent; Rhonda Bobb — St Gabriel Girls RC School; Sherelle Squires — Debe High School; Victoria Cardinez — Princes Town Jnr Secondary School; Darion Roberts — San Fernando Boys RC; Dinelle Belfon —Holy Faith Convent, Penal; Natessa Alexander — St Madeleine Secondary; Amanda Graham — St Joseph Convent, San Fernando; Kelvin Charles — Princes Town Snr Comprehensive; Sherill Belfon — San Francique Presbyterian School; Shalana Williams — Debe High School; Mandela Patrick — San Fernando Boys Government, and Denissa Nelson (defending champion).
