Judge rules Monday on Bakr bail
On Monday, Justice Prakash Moosai will decide if he is going to grant bail to Imam Yasin Abu Bakr. Bakr, leader of the Jamaat Al Muslimeen, is being held in custody on charges of terrorism, incitement and sedition, arising out of an address at his Mucurapo Mosque during the Eid celebration. His attorney Pamela Elder SC spent almost three hours trying to convince Moosai to grant bail to Bakr. Attorney Douglas Mendes SC, who is representing the State, continued to object to bail. Last week, Chief Magistrate Sherman Mc Nicolls committed Bakr to stand trial on the charges. However, charges against Bakr for possession of arms and ammunition were dropped by the Director of Public Prosecutions. After several hours of submissions, Moosai said he will rule on Monday at 1.30 pm.
