Super Ten b-ball camp bounces off at P/Ville
THE FIRST Super Ten Basketball camp for boys and girls bounces off today at the Southern Indoor Sports Arena, Pleasantville, San Fernando from 10 am and will run until 1 pm. The camp caters for about 50 participants who will be taught the fundamentals and skills of the game such as dribbling, shooting, bouncing, passing. Participants will also be taught the rules and laws of the sport. Those taking part will also be exposed to qualified local and overseas coaching staff most of whom have played the game at the highest level in their respective countries. Some of the coaches are also graduates of the NCAA Divisions One and Two basketball programmes in the United States and the Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA). The camp carries the theme "Fun is the name of the game" and the objective is to provide a stage for the young athletes to display their talents. The coaches include Clement Holder, Kerry Westfield, Patrick "KK" Joseph, Barry Jackson, Ian "Sarge" Demming and Derek "Cornbread" James. Vemco, the makers of Gatorade will provide the kids with refreshments, which include Gatorade and bottled water. Vemco will also outfit the coaching staff with uniforms. The camps will cater for boys and girls between the ages seven and 17 years and will be conducted at different venues over the next few weeks. The South Zone coordinator is Kelvin Roberts and he will be responsible for the running of the camp this weekend. Next week it will be held at the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo as well as the Woodbrook Youth Facility. Registration fee is $50 and it will take place on the morning of the camp from 9.30 am.
