Woman charged with fraud
A FORMER employee of a San Fernando-based security company was arrested over the weekend for allegedly defrauding the company of nearly $100,000. The 26-year-old woman of San Fernando was granted bail over the weekend and is expected to appear today in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court. Police told Newsday that the suspect was employed for almost a year with United Security Canine Cops Limited, which has branch offices in San Fernando and Gasparillo.
The suspect performed certain duties which included filling out the employees’ payroll for the company, police said. It was during the company’s audit last November that it was discovered that almost $100,000 was missing from the funds. A report was made to the Fraud Squad office (south) and Ag Police Cpl Lancaster-Ellis and PC Williams took up investigations. WP Cpl Lancaster-Ellis laid the charges. The suspect was detained on Saturday at the San Fernando CID and granted bail by a Justice of the Peace later that day.
