Police shoot down Defence Force


DONNA ELISE CHARLES scored 32 goals of 42 attempts to lead Police to a stunning 39-34 victory over defending Championship Division champions Defence Force in Courts All Sectors Netball League action.


The Army-Coast Guard women never led in Saturday’s match at the Eastern Regional Sports Arena, trailing 10-9 at the end of the first period.


But behind good shooting from Anastacia Wilson who ended with 21 goal of 32 attempts and Lystra "Twinkletoes" Zamore 13 of 23 Defence Force battled back to even the scores 20-20 at the half-time interval.


Police would not be denied, however, and they surged ahead again in the third stanza, taking a six-goal lead 30-24 at the end of it.


It was game on in the final quarter as Defence Force launched a full-scale attack on the Policewomen, but in the end they could only erase one goal from the deficit.


Euphemia Huggins scored six goals from eight attempts and Shivaughn Skeete got one of one for Police.


Fire eked out a 44-42 victory over CFC in a thrilling second Championship Division match despite leading throughout. Goal-attack Simone Morgan netted 26 goals from 36 attempts and goal-shoot Merlicia Lovell had 18 of 27 for Fire who was ahead 16-5 at the end of the opening quarter.


CFC battled back strongly in the second period behind national goal-shoot and skipper Janelle Barker who finished with 41 goals from 49 attempts, outscoring the Fire Service women 15-10 to trail 26-20 at the half-time interval.


Duane David scored the other goal from six attempts.


And the CFC women continued their rally in the third period which saw them trailing 37-36 at the end.
