Media chased out of church
Media personnel were yesterday ordered out of the Santa Rosa RC Church by security guards during the funeral service of Denise and Tony Najjar. Tony, 37, a chicken farmer, reportedly shot Denise, 32, and turned the gun on himself last Wednesday at their Heights of Guanapo home in Arima. The funeral service at the Arima church was carded for 2.30 pm, with Father Ahee as the officiating priest. When Newsday attempted to enter the church, men dressed in black claiming to be security officers, prevented the reporter and photographer from doing so. They said they had strict instructions not to allow members of the media inside "because of the welfare of the Najjar’s two children." All the pews in the church were filled, and some persons even stood in the doorway. In attendance were members of the business community and students of the St Augustine Girls’ High School. Denise’s body was scheduled to be cremated at 5 pm at Belgrove’s Crematorium, while Tony’s was expected to be cremated at 8 pm. The couple leaves to mourn their two children Loraine and Terron.
