Cops face larceny charge

Officers of the Anti-Corruption Bureau have recommended to Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson that two officers, formerly attached to the Malabar Police Post be charged with larceny of a Datsun Sunny car which disappeared from the station since 2004.

The car which belongs to Anderson Charles was stolen on November 9, 2004.

The vehicle was recovered that same day and impounded at the Malabar Police Post.

On November 22, 2004, Charles went to the Malabar Police Post and requested the return of his vehicle. He was told that the vehicle "had disappeared." Charles through his attorney Haresh Ramnath instructing Annand Ramlogan filed a lawsuit claiming that the conduct of the officers was dishonest, negligent and/or oppressive. He claimed aggravated and/or exemplary damages.

In a letter to Ramlogan, attorney Tricia Bhagwandeen of the Attorney General’s Department, stated that the state has agreed to pay Charles $30,000 plus his legal costs as full compensation.
