Waitress charged with cop stabbing granted bail
BAIL was yesterday granted by a magistrate to the 33-year-old waitress charged with stabbing a policeman with a knife. Sharda Ali, of Charles Street, Gasparillo, was granted $15,000 bail by Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court. When she appeared on Monday, Ali, charged with wounding Police Constable Curtis Pierre, was remanded into custody. She was also charged with malicious damage to property arising out of the same incident in which she is alleged to have slashed the tyres of Pierre’s vehicle. The charges were laid indictably by Cpl James of the Gasparillo Police Station and Ali was not called upon to enter a plea. The waitress was denied bail on Monday upon objection of police prosecutor Sgt Harricharan Kassie who requested a trace on her criminal record. Yesterday, magistrate Wellinghton fixed bail in the sum of $15,000 to cover both charges. Ali is expected to reappear in court on February 10.
