Injured Sunset out until next month

SUNSET, winner of the Kent Smith Trophy at Santa Rosa Park, Arima, on Saturday last has been banned from racing again until March 11. According to a stewards report, the racing veterinarian reported the five-year-old son of Towards The Light Senset returned very lame after his his surprise head victory over Island Runner. The Mary Navarro-owned horse which is trained by Derick Mosca, rewarded backers with $25.90 and $7.80 on the tote. Four-year-old Royal Dame will not race again. On the recommendation of the “vet,” this American-bred filly which is owned and trained by Bobby Persad, has been retired because of what was described as “chronic lameness.”


And because of injury, Fame And Glory will also be off the track until the first “Friday Lime” of the season on February 24. Kylie Wylie who returned lame after finishing second to Life In Russia in the Terrance Smith Trophy over 1750 metres is not to race again until an ultra sound examination is performed to determine the extent of his injury. Another to be stopped from racing until February 24 is Morgan Heritage, while the “vet” reported that Blue Reign has suffered an eye injury and should not race again without the use of an eye-shield affixed to his left eye. And the stewards deemed that Trini Calling should not be allowed to take entry again until after four schooling sessions.
