Leo denies Roget rumour
THERE is not truth to a rumour circulating in London that Trinidad and Tobago football coach Leo Beenhakker has called up Oxford United defender Leo Roget for the international friendly against Iceland on Carnival Tuesday, February 28. According to the coach, Roget whose father is Trinidadian, has not even been seen by him or any member of his technical staff. Assistant coach Whim Rijsbergen hoped to see Roget in action during a recent trip to England, but didn’t get the chance as he was injured. Beenhakker is expected to name his 20-man squad for the Iceland match next week. The Dutch-born coach expressed satisfaction with the players at the live-in camp at Fort Lauderdale, Miami. Beenhakker saw his 15-man group in action in a practice match against Florida International University at the Sunrise Hilton last night. To date, both Julius James and Anthony Noreiga have both been impressive in training. He made it clear, every player will be given every opportunity to show his capabilities. The Soca Warriors will also play Slovenia in an international friendly as part of their preparation for World Cup Germany Finals on May 31 in Austria. Coach Beenhakker also has practice matches lined-up against Wales on May 27 and Czech Republic on June 3 in Prague. And the Soca Warriors play Peru at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain on May 10. Meanwhile, Dennis Lawrence who became a hero scoring the only goal against Bahrain which put the Soca Warriors to the World Cup Finals, said he is looking forward to the match against Wales. Lawrence a member of Welsh club Wrexham said: "It’s going to be extra special because Wales feels like my adopted nation. "Wales have a good team and this match will be good preparation. It will be beneficial ahead of us facing England," he said.
