Machel, Andy Singh cut Soca/Chutney CD
BILLED as the latest Chutney Soca collaboration for the 2006 Carnival season, O Sundar Larki has hit the musical airwaves with a bang. Machel Montano’s Xtatik band and Chutney Soca band SSL Mellowbugz are the latest cross-over in which Montano and Andy Singh have combined their talents. The CD O Sundar Larki which means "Beautiful Women," was completed and produced on Thursday morning. Written by Krishna Persad and originally sung by Singh, O Sundar Larki is Montano and Singh’s remake. The two got together recently for this year’s Chutney Soca and Carnival season. O Sundar Larki was arranged by SSL Mellowbugz bandleader Rishi Mahatoo, Montano and musician Kernel Roberts. The song was recorded at World Beat Studio at Caroni Savannah Road, Caroni. Singh, who sang traditional Hindi songs like his father Ras Nancoo Singh, ventured into the chutney circuit 14 years ago. When he left the studio with Montano Thursday morning, Singh was in ecstasy. "It is a dream come true," he beamed, "doing this with Montano."
