Sarwan (104) gives Guyana points

ST GEORGE’S: Stand-in skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan hit a brilliant unbeaten 104 to lead Guyana to first innings points over Windward Islands on the second day of their Carib Beer Series match at the Tanteen Recreation Oval yesterday.

The Guyanese ended the day on 245 for eight wickets replying to Windward Islands 189.

Resuming on six runs for one wicket, saw Sarwan and Narsingh Deonarine who scored 30, take Guyana to 50 before the latter was out.

Wickets then began to fall regularly as Kenroy Peters who took three for 43 and Rawl Lewis three for 63 threatened to rout the Guyanese who lost half their team for 102.

But a solid eighth-wicket stand between Sarwan and tailender Reon Griffith (36) took Guyana past the Windwards 189-run total. The pair took the score from 147 for seven wickets and added 96 runs.

Guyana now hold a 56-run lead over the Windwards with two more days to play.
