Coach appointed scholarship scout
CURTIS ORR, a football coach, has been appointed as a scholarship scout with the College Prep International Scholarship Recruitment Services in New York. Orr, a Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) licensed coach with 19 years of experience, is the holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Science. With his new role, he will be responsible for identifying young talent in football, basketball, swimming, hockey, tennis, volleyball and track and field. And Orr will take a look at a number of local athletes as well as monitoring their academic development to determine what sort of scholarship they can receive. Orr noted that over 1,200 colleges and universities in the United States offer scholarships throughout the world and a number of the institutes are on the lookout for TT talent. Orr expressed his gratitude for the appointment as he was always keen on offering more than just coaching to the nation’s youths. With the chance of being a local scout, he is mindful of the fact that a number of local athletes are eager to hone their skills but had few knowledgeable persons for assistance. As a result, Orr is setting his sights on helping youngsters with their scholarship aspirations, bearing in mind that their academic success will go a long way in making their dreams a reality. Schools interested in the venture can contact Orr at 627-2288 or 750-8751 between the hours of 9 am and 6 pm to arrange screening sessions at their respective locations. Persons willing to take up the initiative can also call Orr or visit the Net Shakers Club, Princes Building Grounds, Port-of-Spain from Tuesdays to Thursdays (3.30-5.30 pm) or Saturdays from 9-11.30 am. In related news, the Net Shakers Club began their 2006 youth development programme on Saturday. Interested persons can contact Orr at the abovementioned numbers.
