C&W all-weather pitch for TT
TRINIDAD and Tobago are among five Caribbean countries to receive all-weather cricket pitches courtesy Cable & Wireless. According to Pat Bynoe-Clarke, the five countries, Anguilla, Turks and Caicos, Nevis, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago will join British Virgin Islands, St Kitts, Jamaica, St Lucia, Grenada, Cayman Islands and Montserrat to have received the pitches. And Cricket World Cup 2007 chief executive officer Chris Dehring said he was very pleased with the initiative.
Cable & Wireless said this activity is part of the company’s commitment to encourage cricket development and to nuture future cricket players. A news release by Cable & Wireless indicated that by February 21, moveable match pitches would have been given to communities across the Caribbean, as part of their official regional sponsorship of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007. Cable & Wireless said they were excited about the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007 coming to the Caribbean, and alluded to their long history in supporting cricket at the local level, and hoped their venture would enable better access to the game for communities across the Caribbean for years to come.
They thanked the Local Organising Committee and national cricket associations for their support in the Cable & Wireless erffort to get the pitches into the communities that need them. Dehring said: “I am very pleased with the initiative Cable & Wireless have taken acrosws the region with their pitch donation programme. “As we lead up to World Cup 2007, we are all acutely aware of the community support that is necessary for the nuturing and development of future West Indian cricketers.” Dehring said: “Enabling greater access for youth to the game, and supporting ‘Coach the Coaches’ programmes at places such as the Jamaica Cricket Association’s centres of excellence receiving pitches on Monday is just the kind of support we need from the community to ensure that West Indian cricket is a success in 2007 and beyond.”
