17 BIG BANDS IN PAN SEMIS

Due to a big mix-up in the score sheets in Tobago, all large bands from the preliminary round of competition will be advancing to the semi-finals carded for the Queen’s Park Savannah in Port-of- Spain tomorrow. The three bands to join the fray are B-mobile’s Our Boys from Tobago, and Birdsong and Pamberi from the East.

With these additions, patrons attending the event will now have to listen to a total of 45 bands, since Pan Trinbago has decided to include the small bands in tomorrow’s programme.

When asked if this meant a return to the 4 am and 5 am Monday morning finish, Pan Trinbago president Patrick Arnold said: "It won’t happen that way. We just don’t want to discriminate against the small bands by putting them in the street or in Arima." He then gave the assurance that the programme will not extend to the early hours of Monday morning, adding that his organisation has everything in place for the show to move smoothly and swiftly.

When asked about Pan Trinbago’s readiness for the event at the Savannah, he said: "We are always ready. The deal is that the facilitators of the Savannah are supposed to have the venue ready to hand over to us at 6 am on Sunday. Once they are ready we are ready. Any locked gates will not be our fault. We will be ready."

Meanwhile, the $150 tickets for the North Stand are almost sold out, while ticket sales for the Grand Stand’s box and general areas are still available at the Pan Trinbago Savannah office. Because of the number of bands appearing on Sunday, Arnold emphatically stated that the show will start at 9 am sharp.
