No Cro Cro, Shadow or Plummer

More than half of the contestants selected for the National Calypso Monarch semi-final "Calypso Fiesta" come from Calypso tents run by the Trinbago Unified Calypso Organisation (TUCO). Kaiso House alone secured eight picks, including TUCO president, Michael Leggerton (Protector).

Other bards from the Kaiso House are Explainer (Winston Henry), Singing Sandra (Sandra De Vignes-Millington), Crazy (Edwin Ayoung), Brother Mudada (Allan Fortune), GB (Gregory Ballantyne), Brother Valentino (Emrold Phillip) and Rootsman (Yasei Osei).

From Kaiso Showkase are Brian London, Young King of 2005, Joanne Foster, Joseph Adams and Lady Adanna (Marcia Charles).

Klassic Ruso also got another four picks in All Rounder (Anthony Hendrickson), Revealer (Patrick Lewis), Manchild (Carlton Collins) and Versatile (Dorrel Hector).

The 17th TUCO-run tent person is Stinger (Dexter Parsons) from the Kaiso Karavan.

Meanwhile, eight unattached calypsonians found favour with the judges and were included for the semi-finals.

They are Luta (Morel Peters), Tigress (Joanne Rowley), Anthony Johnson, Heather Mac Intosh and youngsters Roderick Gordon, Kizzy Ruiz, Karene Asche and Rondell Donawa. The Calypso Revue managed to get three selections through Skatie (Carlos James), Bally (Errol Ballantyne) and Sugar Aloes (Michael Osouna).

The remaining two calypsonians chosen for the Fiesta in San Fernando on Saturday are De Fosto (Winston Scarborough) from the Icons tent and Duane O’Connor of the NACC-run tent, Generation Next.

However, regular finalists such as Cro Cro (Weston Rawlins), Shadow (Winston Bailey), Devon Seales and Denyse Plummer failed to impress the judges enough to get past preliminary judging in the tents.
