Tadpole spins PowerGen to 30-run victory

DAVE "TADPOLE" MOHAMMED celebrated his selection on the West Indies "A" team yesterday, taking four wickets with his left-arm spin, as PowerGen Sports whipped FCB Clarke Road United by 30 runs in the first round of the Carib Shield 20-overs competition.

In their Group "D" clash at Wilson Road, Penal, the Clarke Road batsmen had no answer for the national spinner, as he claimed four for 14 off four overs as the hosts, chasing a victory target of 125, were dismissed for 94 in 17.5 overs. Guyanese Damodar Daesrath made 22 in a losing cause for the hosts.

In the other Group "D" fixture, Couva Sports prevailed by eight wickets over Mayo Valley Boys at Union Hall. Responding to Mayo’s 132/8, Couva reached 135/2 with Jaggernauth Ramnanan unbeaten on 55.

Ceramic Merryboys completed a 21-run victory over Queen’s Park at the Diego Martin Recreation Ground in a Group "A" match.

Rishaad Harris’ topscore of 49 was in vain as the Parkites, set a score of 183, were only able to muster 162 for eight with Mario Belcon grabbing three wickets for 26 runs.

In Group "B," British American Aranguez Sports strolled to a comfortable 100-run triumph over Las Lomas Sports at Aranguez.

Responding to Aranguez’s score of 174 for six, the Las Lomas squad was restricted to 76 for seven with Steven Alphonso hitting 28 and Deepak Jattan 22.
