Bravo down with side strain

WELLINGTON: West Indies all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been treated for a left side strain and is being monitored closely by physiotherapist Stephen Partridge, a team statement said yesterday.

The 22-year old sustained the injury during the opening Twenty20 match against New Zealand on Wednesday and was forced to miss the first One-Day International of the five-match series which the West Indies lost by 81 runs.

Bravo’s recovery has been complicated by the fact that he was come down with a bout of flu.

Bravo, whose sound batting, intelligent bowling and electrifying fielding has become a major asset to the regional side, will remain under observation as the team travels to the south-western town of Queenstown today for the second ODI on February 22.

Batsman Ramnaresh Sarwan and Wavell Hinds, both of whom were concerns ahead of the opening ODI because of illness and injury respectively, recovered in time to take their place in the match at the Westpac Stadium yesterday.
