Gospel artistes take over the Promenade
PRAISE and worship music filled the Brian Lara Promenade for several hours yesterday as several Full Gospel churches gathered for the 2006 edition of Praise on the Promenade. The event, hosted by gospel radio station ISAAC 98.1 FM, featured top gospel artistes from throughout the country who stirred the crowd with their renditions of popular gospel songs, including several popular gospelypsoes. Hundreds of onlookers gathered to take in performances by Michelle Modeste, Glorified Ambassadors, Marisa Elcock-Thongs, Melissa Precious Brown, Roxanne James and others. Tobago was represented at the event by Pastor Terrance Baynes, Blessed Messengers and Crew, featuring ace break dancer, Kent Guichard and Pastor Sean Melville. One of the stars of the afternoon was Winsie-Ann Cuffie, teenaged daughter of Pastor Winston Cuffie. Decked out in a military outfit and accompanied by four devils, the young performer sang about "warring" against the Devil and taking her miracles from him. Other notable performances were given by the Belmont Weslyan Holiness Church Dancers, singers Sandra Thomas and Kern Tyson. Rev Margaret Elcock, president and founder of the Family Focus Broadcasting Network, parent company of ISAAC 98.1 FM, said "Praise on the Promenade" was held at a "strategic time" to cover the nation in prayer, spiritual warfare and prophetic declarations and to minister to the hurting, lonely and afflicted before the advent of Carnival. "What the nation needs now is not more wine, jam and bacchanal but prayer," she said.
