Stunning portrayals at Kiddies Carnival
YOUNG masqueraders took over the stage at the Queen’s Park Savannah yesterday as the Red Cross Society hosted the 50th edition of their Children’s Carnival. The youngsters, ranging from babies to teenagers came out in a stunning array of portrayals including fairy tale, cartoon and comic book characters. Football was a popular theme with many costumes celebrating the fact that this country’s national football squad is headed to Germany for the Football World Cup 2006. "Footloose in Germany" portrayed by Marc Rostant and "Germany Here We Come", by Joanna Rostant, were just two of the colourful football portrayals featured at the event. Other notable presentations were "An Endangered Species — The Leatherback Turtle," "Fish Fuh So/I See The Sea", "Sharman of the Elephant People" and "Surfing the Ocean’s Waves/I See The Sea." Some of the results from the competition are as follows: Girls 3-5 Category 1."Outta D’ Band Xtatik" - Natalia D’Abreau. 2. "Goddess of the Sea of Cortez" - Aliana Welsh. 3. "A Tribute to Tropical Islanders" - Jada Prescott. Boys 6-8 Category 1. "Surfing The Ocean Waves/I See The Sea" - Ethan Hutchinson. 2. "Oh Laventille, Here We Come" - Denzil Patrick Jennings 3. "Future Suit." Floats 1. "Is Dis D Solution? The Old Woman Who Lived In a Shoe" - Rose Mary Perkins 2. "Gulliver In Trouble In Lilliput" - Success Laventille Composite School Couples Category 1. "The Beauty of the Calabash" - Mesfin and Damali Tuitt. 2. "Macomere Then And She Future Friend" - Jae’l Neptune and Brittney Williams. 3. "Golden City Beauties" - Anya Welch and Leighare Woodley.
