Rampaging pitbull shot dead
POLICEMEN pumped seven bullets into a pitbull to prevent an attack on residents on Tuesday night, after the pitbull went on a rampage and mauled two dogs along Rahaman Drive, La Romaine. The animal escaped from a residence at about 10 pm, a police report stated. The owner told police the dog slipped through the front gate of his home and he tried unsuccessfully to coax the dog back into his yard without success. The pitbull then ran down the street. The first attack took place at the home of Chiranjoo Boodoosingh, 46, who was inside his house with his wife and two children. The police report stated the light-brown pitbull attacked the family’s pet dog. Boodoosingh, police said, threw a bucket of water on the dog but instead of running away the dog charged at him. Boodoosingh ran back into his house. The pitbull then ran into the yard of his neighbour, Arjoon Singh, and attacked another dog. Boodoosingh immediately called E-999. Singh said he and his wife and three children locked themselves inside and looked on helplessly as the pitbull mauled their pet dog. Singh’s daughter Diana, 24, tried to pull the injured dog away. According to the police report, the pitbull grabbed the dog by its neck and dragged it behind Singh’s house. When PCs Judson Mohammed and Wendel Manohar arrived on the scene, the report stated, they fired a warning shot. The officers also threw a stone at the pitbull, but it did not release its grip on the other dog. According to the report, the pitbull leaped at one of the policemen and this caused the officers to open fire on the animal, killing it on the spot.
