Changing rules of fair play

THE EDITOR: Recently while driving to Sando to visit a client, I heard on a local radio station talk show the chairman of a credit union lambasting a food company and accusing them of being one of the "big businesses" surrounding Winston Dookeran. As far as I know they are not involved in politics and I should know as I was employed in that company’s management for a few years.

The gentleman went on to violate the rules of fair play in business, by stating that the food company’s main objective was to compete disloyally with the "doubles vendors."

Is the gentleman warning the business community that should the UNC win the next elections, the rules of fair play will be changed to accommodate his particular brand of politics and interests.

I was all for a process of social change but now that I have my own business that has cost me and my family, "blood, sweat and tears," this gentleman’s comments has me real afraid for the future. Having my own business has been the dream of my whole life, I now have my own home bought my wife a car last Christmas, my children are doing well at school and above all I have a lot of mortgage to pay. Does he intend that if I am not of the right colour or class, my business will be attacked and destroyed?

What is going on in TT, can a man no longer aspire to achieve his goals by hard work and sacrifice?

I hear some other fella on the talk show refer to taking the example of Venezuela and some revolution going on there. My business is with the mainland, I travel there all the time and can tell you things in that country are real bad. We don’t want that for sweet TT. Leave our land in peace.
