Zimbabwe tour gets go-ahead

BRIDGETOWN: Zimbabwe received the go-ahead from the West Indies Cricket Board yesterday to tour the Caribbean in April and May for seven One-Day Internationals. "I can confirm that the Zimbabwe tour is on," WICB Chief Cricket Operations Officer Zorol Barthley said from Antigua. "The finalised dates will be issued sometime in the next couple of days."

Zimbabwe was originally scheduled for two Tests and five one-dayers before its governing body, Zimbabwe Cricket, in January chose to suspend their team from Test cricket for 12 months.

That decision cast doubt over whether the Caribbean tour would continue, especially in the light of continued wrangling between Zimbabwe Cricket and their leading players.

But Barthley said negotiations had concluded, and the Zimbabweans would arrive in the West Indies in late April.

It is expected that Guyana, which had been set to host the First Test, will now be the venue for the two extra One-Day Internationals.

West Indies host India for five one-dayers and four Tests following the Zimbabwe series.
