Abu Bakr resting comfortably at Golden Grove

“What happened is that the prison officers at Royal Gaol, Port-of-Spain failed to administer his insulin medication. And this resulted in him feeling ill on Monday while at Royal Gaol awaiting his trial. Next morning on the request of his three wives and the approval of the Commissioner of Prisons John Rougier he was removed to the Maximum Security Prison infirmary for better treatment.”

The source added that they do not feel the prison officers were biased against the Imam but simply forgot or did not know how sick he was. Bakr, 64, is currently warded at the MSP in a satisfactory condition.

Bakr is currently charged with sedition and three counts of inciting criminal act and promoting a terrorist act.
