‘Mastana Bahar’ returns toTV

On the air for 35 years up to 2004, Mastana Bahar was the longest running competition series on local television.

Khayal Mohammed, producer of the series said that NCC TV Channels 4&16 has agreed to air the programme at the regular time slot which it previously occupied on TTT, which is on Saturdays at 6 pm. The new series begins from April 1. At a meeting in San Juan with the production committee Mohammed said there will be a total of 22 programmes comprising of preliminaries, semi-finals and the final competition.

“This programme remains a vehicle that has taken the talent of this country from one level to the next,” Mohammed said. He noted that hundreds of artistes who have now risen to international heights got their break from Mastana Bahar.

Among these are the popular Michael Salikram, Heeralal Rampartap, Andy Singh, Raymond Ramnarine, Anand Yankaran, Sally Edwards and Jameer Hosein. The keenly contested 2004 series was won by 19-year-old Sudesh Jhagroo of Penal.

The eagerly anticipated first audition promises to be just as interesting as the past ones.
It remains free to the public with lots of giveaways from sponsors.
