‘Oh, my aching head’

According to the US National Library of Medicine, migraines can either be “with aura” or “without aura.”

An aura is a series of symptoms, usually disturbances in vision, that warn of a coming migraine.

Patients typically see a flash of brightly coloured or blinking lights before the headache begins.

Prescription and over-the-counter drugs are available specifically to treat migraines. It also helps to avoid things that can trigger the headaches, including bright lights and loud noises, stress, changes in sleep patterns, and certain foods — such as chocolate, nuts or peanut butter.
