NAAA to help Brown recuperate

This announcement was made at the office of the National Lotteries Control Board (NLCB), Duke Street in Port-of-Spain.

The occasion was a presentation of a plaque from the NAAA to the NLCB for their financial assistance over the years. Doldron said the NLCB has been their biggest and longest serving sponsors and he felt the time had come to thank them.

Brown reportedly tore a hamstring in the first round of the 100 metres sprint over the weekend in Melbourne, Australia and finished seventh.

His best friend and colleague Marc Burns went on to earn the bronze medal in the final when he clocked 10.17 on Monday.

The race was won by Jamaica Asafa Powell who returned a time of 10.03, well ahead of second place Sofi Fasuba of Nigeria (10.11).

Doldron said he was disappointed on learning of Brown’s injury and said all will be done to restore him to normalcy as soon as possible.

He praised Burns for his performance at the Commonwealth Games saying that despite a slow start in the final, he recovered well. Doldron lamented the omission of hammer thrower Candice Scott who did not make the trip because of injury.

According to Doldron, the 2005 First Citizens Bank (FCB) and Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee (TTOC) Sportswoman of the Year was a certain medallist at the games. Doldron said he was also disappointed with the performances of the Trinidad and Tobago 400 metres athletes who were all eliminated during the heats.

Among them only Damian Barry, Ato Modibo among the men and Nikeisha Charles gave credible performances by placing third, fourth and fifth respectively in their heats..
“I was expecting the 400 metres runners to up their times at the games but they did not,” Doldron said.

According to the NAAA boss, the runners returned times of 46-seconds-plus at the games although they gave 45-second performances during the trials here in Trinidad and Tobago.
He said there is also hope of medals for the 4X100 metres and 4X 400 metres relay teams.
Doldron presented Patricia Pierre Joseph, secretary to the NLCB Board, with a plaque for their assistance.

Pierre-Joseph told the media afterwards that it was good that someone has recognised the contributions that the NLCB has made over the years.
