Sunday treat for shoppers

Instead of the usual tiny cubes handed out in other product sampling promotions, Hi-Lo had two of the “Best Six” chefs Khalid Mohammed of Battimamzelle in Maraval and Joe Brown of Solimar in Westmall, cooking the chilled beef to customers’ preferences (rare, medium or well-done). They cut the premium beef into bite-sized pieces, and presented the variety of cuts speared on toothpicks and served with either a sauce au poivre (pepper sauce) or mushroom sauce (or both for those who wanted to experience the full taste sensation).

On offer in Maraval were Eye of Round, Striploin and Bottom (yes, that puzzled me, too, but I forgot to ask). Needless to say male customers clustered around Chef Khalid’s booth sampling at first one, then another cut of the chilled beef.

At these introductory prices I felt I could treat myself to a pack of the mysterious, and least expensive, Bottom. Look for my adventures with this unknown cut in a forthcoming Monday Recipe Column.

There will be more beef sampling treats for customers in the future.
