Courses for b-ball coaches soon

A SERIES of activities has been planned ahead of the start of the 2006 basketball season involving competition in the various zones.
The events will follow tomorrow’s General Meeting of the Trinidad and Tobago Basketball Federation at the Maloney Indoor Complex, Maloney at 10 am.
According to a top official of the Trinidad and Tobago Basketball Association (TTBA) Obadiah Asher yesterday, the association in its commitment to the development of the sport has organised a number of coaching courses across the twin-island republic.
It begins with the staging of a Level One FIBA Certification Course for top local basketball coaches from April 1.
The course, over a couple weeks will be followed with by the hosting of a FIBA Officiating course two days later at the Eastern Regional Indoor Sports Arena, Tacarigua for another two weeks.
The Level One coaching course will also be conducted in the sister-isle of Tobago at a date to be announced in May.
The federation has also organised a community coaching workshop for the coaches. This workshop will bounce off from April 5 at a venue to be confirmed.
According to Asher, this year will also see the return of a Central Basketball Zone competition
The association has been dysfunctional for the past four years and according to Asher, it will be making a return with a bang.
Central intends to hold a very exciting tournament with the hope of reviving the sport.
Asher said that while there are community tournaments taking place in the Central Zone, the CBZ has been inactive.
Competition in the North Zone begins at the end of April while action in the South Zone is scheduled to bounce off around the same time.
In the East Zone, the battle starts in May while next month will also be the starting date for the Tobago Zone.
