Rootsman CD marks 30 years in calypso

Rootsman is well known for his social commentary and the new release includes some of those and the ever-popular “Rack Me, Rack Me.” Other songs are “Rise Up Getto Youths,” “Pure Niceness,” “Festival Time,” “Keep On Trucking,” “Pass De Change,” “Everybody’s World,” “Live Nice Little Black Girl,” “Save We Culture,” “Soca to The Palace,” “Rocking All Night” and “Miami Vibes” among others. In his two renditions for this year’s Carnival, “Time To Rise Up” and “Rise Up Ghetto Youths,” Rootsman called on the youths to make a stand in a meaningful way.

He said that while many singers have been calling out to the youths to cease the bloodshed, he is going one step further by telling them to save the country which they belong to. “I am concerned about the youths today. Those who don’t seem to have any direction. They must now put down their weapons and look up to the Almighty for a better direction in life,” he said. He said that he will continue to write songs with strong messages for the people.
