Calypso battle in the camp

As a matter of fact there was a meeting in the car park among several young calypsonians while the more senior bards were in the “camp” discussing their president’s (Michael Legerton) views on who is a calypsonian.

Just back from an extended stay in Canada, Dennis Hall aka Sprangalang, a former president of TUCO led the charge making others know that he really did not care

about what his president said.

In the discussion were Black Stalin, Bro Resistance, Karega Mandela, Rudolph Ottley, Ibn de Leon (Roaring Lion’s son) Brother Valentino and Skatie. Sprangalang was “spitting out” calypso history for the others who all seemed eager to know more.

Black Stalin commented on a release sent out by Ronnie Peters aka King Soul saying that Soul seemed to have a handle on things the way he outlined the problems facing TUCO. He was also very complimentary in the manner in which Soul put himself up for a candidate as president of TUCO, whenever the annual general meeting is held and election is called.

Brother Resistance, TUCO’s general secretary remains adamant that he is not a calypsonian and he is not perturbed by this developing situation. Photographer GARY CARDINEZ captures the calypsonians and “non calypsonians” in their heated discussions.
