TTEC celebrates in style in Tobago

Bedecked in their finest, the oldsters - almost all proud TTEC retirees and ‘pioneers’ - were out in full force for the momentous occasion described as a “Diamond Jubilee Praise and Thanksgiving Celebration (Tobago).” However, it was noted that while TTEC was established on January 1, 1946, it was not until six years later that the Commission was “mandated” to provide electricity service in Tobago. The Power Station in Scarborough was officially commissioned on September 9, 1952, supplying electrical power to 251 customers. This figure grew to 3,000 customers within ten years, and at present more than 19,000 customers are served by TTEC Tobago. The island’s electricity output is currently supplied by two submarine cables from Trinidad along with installed capacity at the Scarborough Power Station. Plans are on the drawing board for the establishment of a 60-Megawatt Gas Turbine Power Station at the Cove Industrial Estate in west Tobago within a few years, according to TTEC General Manager Indarjit Singh. Overall, TTEC has moved from a customer base of 6,000 in 1946 to more than 364,000 today.
