Baptiste who is consultant atWITT’s Administrative Office, explained water institutes have been established in many countries across the world.
He said they perform three functions.
“Firstly through the programmes they offer and the research they conduct, they help build Human Resources capacity in the water sector. Secondly, through their consulting and training activities, they contribute to the strengthening of sector institutions and thirdly, they contribute to policy formulation.” Baptiste said a water institute can bring a number of benefits. “Through its training and educational programmes, it would provide a consistent turnover of skilled persons to service the water sector.’ Moreover, over the next few years, Government plans to invest substantially in water.
