DANE’S GRANNY REACTS
‘Oh God, what is going on!’
For the elderly woman, who is still struggling to come to terms with the buggery and murder of her grandson Dane Andrews, 12, on February 1, the news of the buggery and murder of six-year-old Sean Lumfai, was too much for her.
Her anguished screams echoed through her New Grant, Pt Fortin home. “What is going on, God? What going on? Please help our children!” Only a few weeks ago, Dane’s body was found on the bank of a river in Monkey Town, Princes Town. He was buggered and murdered. His killer remains on the loose. Yesterday, Lumfai, who was missing since Sunday, was found in a canefield near his Henry Street, Waterloo Village, Carapichaima home.
The elderly woman told Newsday she was washing when the midday news on television jolted her. “I made it my business to sit and look at the noon news on television. When I heard the news about Sean Lumfai and saw pictures of my own grandson, I just held my head and started to
bawl. I could not stop crying,” Andrews said.
“It was the only thing I could have done at the time. I could imagine the pain that Sean went through. When I saw a picture of my grandson, I could have related to the pain he also went
through,” she added.
Andrews urged parents to ensure that they always know the whereabouts of their children. “If the time pass and your child ain’t reach home yet, start looking.”
The killing of Lumfai has sent this year’s murder rate skyrocketing to 103 and comes on the heels of the passage of the Police Reform Bills in the House of Representatives on Monday which was hailed by Prime Minister Patrick Manning as “a major step forward” in the battle against the
criminal element in the country. Homicide Bureau sources told Newsday it was too early to say if the Andrews and Lumfai killings were done by the same person/s or if the Lumfai killing was a copycat act.
Sources added that the FBI agents posted in this country have taken a particular interest in these two killings which mirror similar incidents occurring in the United States.
