‘Put health care first'

Speaking yesterday at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital’s (PoSGH) North West Regional Health Authority (NW-RHA) Women’s Health Fiesta 2006, Rahael said too many people waited until they were in a critical condition, before they sought medical attention.

“Even when you feel well, pay a visit to a health clinic near you,” said Rahael.

General manager of the Nursing and Patient Support Services, Daphne Graham, also emphasised that people would avoid visiting the health clinics because of their financial status.

Graham said public health care is not prejudiced and caters for everyone in society. Graham said women must take care of their families, as women are the decision-makers when it comes to health care. Graham said the public must take pride in accessing their health care tax-paying facilities.

The NWRHA Women’s Health Fiesta which had several viewing booths, offered members of the public free voluntary counselling and testing services.
