Black caucus has me worried
THE EDITOR: The agenda of The Black Caucus would further marginalise Indians. A local group calling themselves “The Black Caucus” held a meeting in Port-of-Spain recently. The leader, is also the Trinidad representative of the Nation of Islam. He said the group’s agenda is to empower Africans in society. Another spokesman said that The Black Caucus was formed to strengthen the PNM. The irony is that most Afro-Trinidadians are already enjoying the spoils of government office. The PNM is mostly African in composition and their stronghold over Trinidad is evident everyday. The Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Tourism and other state agencies employ mainly blacks. Trinidad Embassies around the world employ nearly 100 percent of Afro-Trinidadians. What else is there to take control of? Indo-Trinidadians are already marginalised by the Government, and if the Black Caucus were to be successful in their mission, what would become of those other ethnic groups?
