Manswell, Sinnette win again

Referee Tommy Thomas intervened to stop the fight in the third round after Manswell unleased a barrage of punches on the hapless American fighter.

With the result, Manswell took his record to ten fights without losses in his short but impressive professional boxing career. The fight was one of two professional bouts which highlighted the boxing programme of the Southern Games at Marabella. There will be another big card on Friday to highlight the Palo Seco Games. According to the Amateur Boxing Association (ABA) president Cecil Forde, the Palo Seco card will feature Giselle Salandy, Manswell and Sinnette, as well as several amateur bouts.

In the other professional encounter Kirt Sinnette clobbered his compatriot Clint Ceballo to up his record to ten fights and no losses. The scheduled four-round middleweight bout was totally dominated by Sinnette. It was also stopped prematurely when Sinnette started battering his weaker and less talented opponent into submission. Trinidad and Tobago’s amateur boxers led by Dexter Gonzales also had a good night defeating Christopher De Freitas of Guyana. Gonzales won the four-round fight 3-1 in the featherweight scrap.

Then Aaron Hassett also took care of another Guyanese opponent outpointing Jermaine King by 4-1, while Denzil Salazar from the Cosmic Boxing Gym defeated the Defence Force Andrew Fermin 3-1. Salazar has been one of the bright young prospects forcing his way into the amateur national team.

In another fight Kirt Blackwell of the Tigers Boxing Gym has took care of Joseph Straker of the Sand City 4-0 in a welterweight encounter.
