Summit of the Americas in 2009

According to a release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this country’s success was made possible through the lobbying efforts of Foreign Affairs Minister Knowlson Gift.

The decision was also facilitated by the withdrawal of Columbia which had expressed an interest in hosting the event. The release stated that Gift had written to his Colombia counterpart, Minister Carolina Barco Isakson on the issue. Isakson will visit Trinidad and Tobago on April 4 and will hold discussions with Gift on a range of issues, including drug interdiction, security, technical and scientific cooperation between Colombia and Trinidad and Tobago and multilateral political matters.
