He added that the manufacturer — Seven Seas UK — will have to restock the items before supplies reach TT. Rawlins said all batches of Pulse High Strength and High Strength Cod Liver Oil have been removed from local retail outlets.

“We will be doing a second sweep for the next few days and when sales representatives go out they will be double checking,” Rawlins said. While there was still concern among some consumers, Rawlins reported that “calm” had returned.

“Many customers who spoke to us are convinced the product is safe.” He said the furore of Tuesday had died down and customers had faith in the Seven Seas brand. “They understand we have been around 70 years and there is no way we’ll put anything above their health.”

Oscar Francois Ltd, the local distributor of Seven Seas, began working with the Health Ministry two Wednesdays ago to remove the Seven Seas products which were on the shelves.

UK Seven Seas started a voluntary withdrawal from wholesale and retail European Union markets after it found that the level of dioxin in the two types of High Strength products exceeded EU acceptable standards for fish oil products and was not in keeping with its own standards.
