Big support for ‘Briggand’
Dr Frankie Dolly of the It’s Simply Because Football Club was instrumental in organising the event with club members, in collaboration with other fete match teams.
A wide array of brunch delicacies was served for some five hours before the live entertainment started with jazz songstress Patty Rogers.
Gerry Prudent and Friends then unleashed a medley of old Sparrow hits that had the mature crowd singing along.
Master quatro player Robert Munro and Friends entertained the audience before ace arranger and pannist Ray Holman got into his act. Holman gave a concert performance, accompanied by some of his friends on acoustic guitar, bass, drums and percussion. He had the audience mesmerised with his playing of the Ray Charles classic, “Georgia,” the late Lord Kitchener’s “Pan In A Minor” and the Panorama version of his 2006 composition “If We Really Want” among other selections during his stint. It was a vintage Holman all evening.
Prudent and Friends returned with old “tabanca” songs and had as a guest performer, Deane Dieffanthaller doing “Bobby Socks” and “Don’t Cry For Me Argentina” backed by some patrons who came onto the stage. However, when the stage cleared, Prudent and company delivered “The Governor’s Ball,” “Now Meh Monkey Go Dead,” “Miss Mary-Ann” and “I Come Out To Play.” By this time all the remaining stragglers were merrily dancing in front of the stage as they took in “Nora Nora,” “Ms Tourist,” “67,” “Love In The Cemetery” and “My Pussin.”
