Protests BUT SuperPharm opens
Members of the South Valsayn Residents Association, who staged a picket demonstration outside the newly-opened pharmacy, accused SuperPharm officials of disregarding their concerns and objections to commercial activity in the area. The residents say they are worried that increased commercial activity will add to traffic congestion and bring other problems into their neighbourhood.
During the official opening ceremony yesterday, SuperPharm Limited’s managing director David Subrian apologised to the residents for the temporary inconvenience during construction of the new facility. Subrian said he wanted the residents to think of the store as their own. Commenting on the protest action, he said, “In 2004, when we located this site and knew that we were going to be part of the community, we began noticing the already bad traffic situation. When we spoke to the Ministry about the widening of the road we found out it was already in the works.
“We are happy that the Valsayn community has gotten their traffic situation alleviated,” Subrian said.
