The Eastern Lions are returning after a two-year absence from the country’s top flight football competition.

Smith opened the scoring in the 24th minute after hustling a hesitant North East Stars defence, winning the ball and simply tapping in.

Then, eight minutes from the halftime interval Nelson intercepted a sloppy pass in the North East backline and beat the goalkeeper for a two-goal cushion.

But the home team lifted their performance after the resumption and were deservedly rewarded for it in the 53rd minute by Shandell Samuel.

Bmobile Joe Public will next face rivals Caledonia AIA on Saturday at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Centre of Excellence, Tunapuna while North East will have a date with Defence Force, same day at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

Caledonia AIA got the better of the Defence Force, known also as the Army Coast-Guard combination 1-0 in their opening clash of the T&T Pro League yesterday at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar.
