Take page from New York crime fighters

THE EDITOR: Permit me to share with your readers, Patrick Manning, Martin Joseph and CoP Paul, the opening paragraph that appeared in one of the dailies in early Jan 2006 under the heading “Crime takes a dive again in New York City”. Quote “Crime has fallen across New York City for the seventeenth consecutive year with subway crime down by more than 5 percent from last year.” The mind goes into a spasm when one envisages what will happen if and when the rail system is reintroduced in TT. Can we not see those armed with their Uzis firing their deadly weapons indiscriminately into crowded train carriages as they now do in drive-by shootings and Movie Towne murders.
We must keep in mind, particularly those who keep saying that crime is rampant throughout the world and that we are over reacting to the crime situation here in our country, that New York City boasts a population of over 12 million as compared to the entire population of TT, which is far less than New York City.
The statistics above tell us quite blatantly that the authorities in the fight against crime in New York City must be doing something right. Can we not follow? The source from which the preceding was quoted is the New York Times, electronic edition.
