Eulalie appeals to all in crime fight

James was speaking at the launch of the Community Safety and Enhancement Programme held at the Brian Lara Promenade yesterday.

In delivering the feature address, James said although the crime situation is a cause for concern, every citizen has a duty to assist in the fight against crime.

She feels that a serious dent can be made in the crime situation if everyone got involved and intervened in some way.

The Community Safety and Enhancement Programme is designed to achieve this objective by engaging everyone in communities.

It is also designed to make people aware of the fact that they can make a difference in the fight against crime.

“The time to rise up is now because we have been too dormant and I believe that we can make a difference by convincing the people involved in crime that it is not too late and they can mend their ways and be upright citizens,” said James.

Crime Stoppers chairman Devrol Dupigny, who also addressed the gathering, said Crime Stoppers will take an active role in the fight against crime by going into communities and educating people about the role of Crime Stoppers.

He said Crime Stoppers is an important agency in the fight against crime, and noted that the system has been working efficiently.

The objective of the Community Safety and Enhancement Programme is to contribute to the reduction of crime in the community by building linkages with the police. It also involves the cooperation and support of super-ordinate structures in the national drive for the reduction and prevention of crime.
