A season for everything

Some have even argued that historic Gnostic literature reveals that Jesus himself asked Judas to betray him.

The logic goes that Judas was chosen to fulfill the divine mandate, so that Christ would end up on the cross to fulfill certain biblical prophecies. In essence, Judas was destined to be the great betrayer of history, and was indeed the neemakaram of his time.

Since we are in a season which demands attention to the betrayal of Christ by Judas, I wonder if we can come to the same conclusion about Basdeo Panday and Ramesh Maharaj?

I wonder if Panday asked Ramesh to betray him so that he can end up a political martyr for the history books in Trinidad and Tobago? This question is not unreasonable when one considers how easy it was for Panday to open his hand and forgive Ramesh, while welcoming him “home” as in the parable of the prodigal son. I agree with biblical scholars, the principles of the Bible are relevant for all times.
