Ex-soldier stabbed to death
Silvan “Skip” Edwards, of Cuthbert Circular, Four Roads, Diego Martin, was at the restaurant awaiting his female companion at about 11.05 pm, when he had an argument with a 22-year-old man. Reports revealed that the man pulled out a knife and stabbed Edwards once in the chest.
The stab wound punctured Edwards’ heart. The victim died on the spot.
An off-duty police officer who witnessed the stabbing sprang into action and arrested the suspect.
The blood-stained knife was seized and handed over to homicide officers.
The murder caused the immediate closure of the restaurant as patrons fled the scene in horror.
Edwards was the 118th person to be murdered for the year.
Yesterday, Peter Edwards, brother of the dead man told Newsday that his brother was a good person and was well-known.
He was described as a talented footballer and a former soldier.
Edwards’ brother added that eight months ago, Joel Edwards, 22, the only son of Silvan Edwards was shot to death at Belmont. His father was still grieving over the killing when he too was murdered.
Peter Edwards said yesterday that his family was concerned and angry over the runaway crime situation in the country.
He is happy that the perpetrator of the killing was arrested and is in police custody.
Investigations are continuing.
