FR Ventour tells parishioners:

Members of the confirmation class of Our Lady of Perpetual Help RC Church, Harris Promenade, San Fernando offered the prayers.

Led by parish priest, Father Allan Ventour, prayers were offered for the Church, the sick, the homeless, the Government and the escalating crime situation.

However, this year’s processional was noticeably smaller compared to previous years with parents keeping a watchful eye on their children while there was also barely noticeable police presence.

The annual processional, which re-enacts Christ’s journey from his betrayal to his crucifixion at Calvary, attracts hundreds of worshippers.

Delivering his homily, Father Ventour advised the hundreds of parishioners who had made the early-morning journey up the Hill to “stand up for what is right” in the face of rampant crime and society’s double standards.

“What do we do when we see child abuse, spousal abuse and other forms of violence against the weak and defenceless in our society? Do we take the easy way out or do we stand up for what is right,” he said.

“The journey to do what is right is a lonely road but it is one where we can take comfort if we know the Father is with us as he was with Jesus during his time of suffering,” he added.

Hymns and other worship songs also formed part of the Good Friday’s morning service.
