How is Forres Park going to cope?
This has been an eyesore for anyone commuting from the east to conduct business in the capital.
In this regard, I am also of the opinion that something be done about the Forres Park landfill to alleviate the effects that it has on surrounding communities.
For years the residents of Forres Park, Caratal, SpringVale and surrounding communities have been clamouring for something to be done about the landfill. Yet our pleas have fallen on deaf ears. We too are faced with the constant, nauseating stench of rotting garbage as well as the illegal dumping of refuse on our roadways by inconsiderate garbage collectors who choose to dump their garbage on the side of the road rather than at the landfill.
To make matters worse, the landfill has become a haven for scavengers and scrap metal dealers that add to an ever increasing eyesore and now that the Beetham has been shut down, we expect a migration of scavengers.
How is the Forres Park landfill going to cope with the additional garbage that was intended for the Beetham? I have already noticed trucks from the San Juan/ Laventille and the Tunupuna/Piarco regional corporations frequenting the landfill.
Was any study conducted by SWMCOL or the EMA to investigate the effects on underground water, soil and air quality as a result of further burdening these resources by waste?
What is SWMCOL doing for our community apart from converting it into a waste land?
And if this isn’t bad enough, Caratal has two massive landslides that up to present has not been assessed nor has any response been received from the Ministry of Works and Transport.
And not to mention the fact that we have to beg WASA to allow us a water supply one day each week so that we can fill our tanks, barrels — as a matter of fact we store water in everything imaginable.
We the residents of Forres Park, Caratal and environs demand that we be treated fairly and not be excluded from your Vision 2020, Mr Manning.
